About Us

We are a group of students and faculty at the California State University of Long Beach who have decided to study the Los Cerritos Wetlands for our senior project in Environmental Science and Policy. This course has existed and studied the Los Cerritos Wetlands Complex (LCWC) for a number of years, and in 2008 it just so happened that one group of students decided to take it upon themselves to create a website and a video to increase public awareness about the existence of these wetlands.

Why are we studying these wetlands?

We are studying the Los Cerritos Wetlands for a number of reasons:

  1. They are the closest "natural" environment, and since we are studying to be environmental scientists it just makes sense...
  2. A large portion of the land is degraded and we're trying to figure out whether or not it's a wetland, because if it's not able to be classified as a wetland, there is very little hope of protecting it from further development, and even less chance that it can be restored someday.

So what does it mean to be "classified as a wetland"?
